~Smell
Meat Test #1 ~
This
CG Werewolf test helped me resolve a number of issues trying to get a
character to speak with a long muzzle, instead of the more flat &
comparatively shallow mouths humans have. Asymmetrical endomorphs were
created to help give the face a more fleshy and organic feel.
Even the key framing of the performance was staggered, to get the left
and right sides working out of phase. The twitchyness comes from
my personal experience with meeting a canadian timberwolf face to face
back when I was going to collage. Domestic animals don't
generally exhibit this kind of nervous wildness.
It
took a number of tests to get the fur dynamics to look correct.
If you carefully look at the cheek areas, you can see the fur lag
behind the bone deformation and dampen down over time. Larger
motions tend to use lower values, and subtle motions tend to need
higher values to be readable. The fur dynamics help make his pelt
look softer and more natural.
One
of the more unusual features of the 3D Model, is that the eyes can
"reflect" light from a light source in a shot and glow, much like those
of cats or dogs do. I think it helps give this 3D Werewolf, a
very feral feel and a bit more life. Make sure to
check out the second
animation test...
